Senior Engineer Dr. Orhan Öcalgiray has established the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Technical University in 1999 with major support.
Biography
He was born on 13 August 1922 in Istanbul. He graduated from
İstanbul Erkek Lisesi School of Science Branch. After graduating from ITU in 1947, he worked in
Sümerbank Merinos wool industry institution between 1948-1956. He has also worked as a technical manager and manager at
Benal Mensucat A.Ş. between 1956-1976.

In 1968, Orimpex textile import and export trade Inc.
In 1971, Oray hand knitting wool Inc.
In 1976, Ormo textile industry trade Inc.
In 1983, Oran textile industry Inc.
In 1984, Ortops wool carding industry Inc.
In 2003, he bought Nako hand knitting wools trade Inc.

Between the years 2003-2006, he combined the production companies under a single name, Ormo Wool Yarn Industry Trade Inc. in foreign marketing and Nako El Knitting Wool Trade Inc. in domestic marketing.

He founded Öcalgiray Investment Holding in 2000.

Established in 1976, the industrial facility of Ormo wool yarn industry Inc. has the wool and synthetic yarn industry [woollen, worstedt and semi-worsted] systems and is the factory with the largest production capacity in the world in the production of hand-knitted wool. Since its establishment in 1976, 60% – 75% of its production is exported to five continents. Also, after starting export, Ormo Inc., caused the hand knitting factories in France, Germany, England, Switzerland and Spain to finish their industrial activities, and they became customers of Ormo Wool Yarn Industry Inc.

In 2006, founded Kolza Biodiesel Fuel and Petroleum Products Inc. and Bionano Technology Production Inc.
In addition, he served as the vice chairman of the board of directors at the Istanbul Technical University Development Foundation and at the foundation's subsidiaryat in ARI Teknokent Inc. and Kultur Inc., which is also a subsidiary of ITU Development Foundation.
He is married and has two children, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
